Appeal for Waiver of Summer Enrollment Requirement Form

Appeal for Waiver of Summer Enrollment Requirement Form

Students admitted to FIU with less than 60 credits may request a waiver for the summer enrollment requirement due to unusual hardship. Although a waiver is allowed, students are encouraged to enroll in summer courses to ensure timely degree completion.

Regulation 6.016: Summer Session Enrollment
"All students entering a university in the State University System with fewer than 60 semester hours shall be required to earn at least 9 semester hours prior to graduation by attendance at one or more summer sessions. University presidents or their designees may waive the application of this regulation in cases of unusual hardship to the individual."

Be advised that only courses taken during summer terms at a State University System institution in Florida can be used to satisfy the summer enrollment requirement. Courses taken at a public community/state college in Florida (e.g., Broward College, Miami Dade College) do not satisfy this requirement.

Note:
Students will be contacted by an FIU staff member from Transfer & Transition Services only if there are questions about the waiver request. Otherwise, the Panther Degree Audit (PDA) is updated within 3-5 business days to show the summer requirement as "Satisfied." Students are asked to submit this form during their graduation term (prior to the graduation application deadline), or preferably, one term prior to graduation.
